Originally Blood Elves in WoW play any class but warrior (on account of how slender they were?!) Night Elves, due to their increased chance to dodge, made great tanks for the alliance and lots of female night elves in plate armor tanked the huge raid bosses. So I guess this was meant to be some kind of hybrid night elf / blood elf with the strength of one and the features of the other... something like that.
